Flower Washcloths

>> Wednesday, June 25, 2008

The wedding came off without a hitch and was spectacular!! I am going to need a few days to unpack and go through photos to post. In the meantime here is my next project.

I'm cracking open my Weekend Knitting book for a present for my sister-in-laws birthday. I love this book. The pictures are fabulous and it has quite a few projects I have made or want to make.

I decided on the flower washcloths. I am going to get some pretty soaps and lotions and call it good.

I got this wonderful 100% cotton chenille from http://www.yarnmarket.com/ and it is soft and I think it will be perfect for the washcloths. Now that my clutch and wrap are finished I will be working on this. I am still working away at the hooded cardigan slowly but surely. Since it is just for me and not a present I am using it as a filler project. I brought it with me for the wedding weekend but didn't get much work done. Since it is a lot of back and forth it's a great knit for taking places as I can still chat with friends and pay attention to the world around me. Take care all.

Wedding Wrap

>> Thursday, June 19, 2008

Here are some pictures of the wrap I knit while on my Vegas trip. They didn't turn out as well as I would have liked but here goes.

It was really hard to show how the light picks up gold flecks in the yarn. It was fast and so simple to work on. I used US 13 needles to make it a bigger knit and just "p2, yo" and then p1 the last stitch each row over and over until I hit the length I wanted.

I'm off to finish getting everything ready for the wedding. We leave first thing in the morning for a fun, fast-paced wedding weekend. The Chanel bag is almost finished. Just need to figure out how to make it close......Have a good weekend and I'll be in touch when we get back.

Girl Trip to Las Vegas

I just got back from a glorious trip to Las Vegas with some girls. It was wonderful to get away and enjoy a couple of days of just being me. The kids stayed home with Daddy and let Mommy fly the coop. I stayed at The Palms and LOVED IT! Here is a picture of the pool as we reclined by it on Wednesday drinking fruity umbrella laden drinks.

We didn't do much of anything which was exactly what we planned on doing. I wasn't sure about the rules regarding knitting on airplanes theses days, with the liquids and the taking off of shoes. Here is a link to the official TSA list of approved and prohibited items. Knitting needles are allowed. There is a pdf you can download and print out as well (I did) just in case. Funny side note, snow globes are not allowed in your carry-on.
Anyway, I did a lot of knitting on the flight and in the airport. I used the leftover yarn from my Chanel bag and made a wrap for the wedding. I am really pleased how it turned out. It was a VERY simple *p2tog, yo* repeat. I'm going to finish it up tonight and hopefully post the pictures. I finished knitting my Chanel clutch and just need to sew it up. I'll post pictures of that after the wedding (which is this weekend).

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day.
We spent our day doing the beautifully simple.

Looking for strawberries in the garden

Sliding down the slide

Rubbing our feet in the grass

And a glimpse of things to come. The beginning of apples on our apple tree.

I hope all of you had as restful a day as we did.

Felted Princess Hat

>> Wednesday, June 11, 2008

This hat was from a Knitty Gritty episode on DIY. It was felted and then you just pull some fabric or a scarf through the hole in the top. Great for dress-up. My daughter loves playing with it.

Quick and fun knit.

Baby hats

This hat is my favorite baby shower gift. I have given it to every baby shower for a little girl I have been to and they all rave. This picture is of the one I made for my daughter. I have since started knitting them out of bamboo yarn as it is the SOFTEST yarn out there and perfect for brand new little heads. It is from a KNIT IT issue a few years ago. I believe the magazine is discontinued. If anyone wants the pattern just email me and I will get it to you.

The hat part knits up really quickly. The petals aren't too bad but give yourself a little time to sew on the petals. I usually leave that part to an evening by itelf so I can leisurely do it.

Knit Chanel Clutch

>> Thursday, June 5, 2008

My sister is getting married this month. I have a fabulous dress that is either hot pink, or reddish orange, or just red depending on who you ask in my family. Anyway I am wearing gold accessories. Gold strappy shoes (love them), gold jewelry and hopefully a gold handbag. I have this fun yarn that I got at Michael's craft store. It is a gold color yarn with sparkly gold flecks thru it.

I got a pattern for a clutch and it is hard to tell from the picture but it is knit to resemble the quilted coco Chanel clutch purses.I am so excited for it. I bought a pretty gold button and some gold material to line it with. This is not the kind of project I can mindlessly do, I have tried and ended up ripping rows out to fix my mistakes. This project is taking some concentration but I really think it will be worth it. I'll post a picture of the finished project when I'm done. I kind of am under a deadline because her wedding is in two weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.

Camping

>> Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Just got back from a camping trip in the mountains. Had a great time.

My daughter did some "cooking" with the local foilage.

We saw some wildlife.

Sunday morning we had what my husband refers to as 'cowboy' coffee, which is using the percolater over an open fire.

I did some knitting at night in front of the campfire which was very relaxing but my hands got cold. I was thinking that I should make myself some fingerless gloves to keep my hands warm while still being able to knit. But I realized that I would need regular full gloves because I tend to knit on and off in front of the fire. So I am going to try and make fingerlesss gloves that have a glove top attached that I can pull back and knit or pull on and sit and relax with warm hands. We'll see how it works out.

P.S. The hooded cardigan I am working on is knitted in one big project. NO SEAMS!! Can't wait to see how it turns out.
